Hello again 🙂
I just got back from a great night out with some friends. After the “no appetite” post earlier, later in the day things took a complete 180 and suddenly I was a ravenous beast. I was feeling snacky so I started off with some brocc:
The Trader Joe’s peanut sauce is out of this world. Oh and this is Trader Joe’s organic broccoli. I’m beginning to think Mr. Joe should pay me for endorsing all his food ;)…psh, one could dream right?
This lil’ bowl of brocc only made me more hungry. Today was just a carb-loving day I suppose. I went straight for the chips n’ hummus.
As I was on to my second handful of these addicting morsels, my friend texted saying she was up for going out to dinner. This friend is like the equivalent of “brother from another mother,” but for females. I shall call her “seester” 🙂 So I put away the shnack food and got myself ready to look decent for society aka NOT wearing my U of A sweatpants, sweatshirt AND matching red U of A slippers. Whose got spirit???
Seester and I tried something new tonight. She and I currently have a bet going on that she couldn’t be vegetarian for 1 month (her idea, not mine). If she wins, I have to buy her a double-double from In-N-Out…I cringe at the thought. If she loses, she’s taking me out to my favorite vegan restaurant in town. She only has 6 days left of the bet :-(. I must say, though, I am thoroughly impressed by her determination to win this bet and, in the mean time, we are helping to save a few animals in the process (so i’d like to think).
ANYWAYS THAT WAS TOTALLY OFF TRACK.
Seester and I went to a place called “Guilin.” It’s a chinese place that has a large menu of vegetarian and vegan items.
We couldn’t decide what the heck we wanted while we were there and the waitress literally had to come back like 5 times before we could make up our mind. We decided to be VERY adventurous and order the “mock sweet n’ sour chik’n” and the “mock cashew shrimp.” I know, I know, fake shrimp…sounds disgusting, right? I wish I could say I could prove you wrong, but I really wasn’t diggin’ it even after a few bites in.
I ended up eating a few pieces of the sweet n’ sour “chicken” because it was super tasty, but also supah deep fried. Not usually my first choice, but I rolled with it. The mock shrimp was rubbery and tasted seafoody. Yes, that is a word…just like bloob. I realize that I should have thought that mock shrimp would have a seafood-like taste, but maybe it’s the fact that I haven’t had seafood in so long or just the plain fact that I had no idea what it was really made out of, but I really really did NOT like this. The veggies and cashews that surrounded the shrimp were excellent though, so the majority of my meal consisted of that. Oh, and to go with the never-ending carb theme of the day, I had about 1/2 of the brown rice from that lil’ bowl.
After dinner, seester and I met up with a few friends to go see the new movie “Oceans,” in honor of Earth Day of course ;). The movie was really cute. It’s amazing how much there is in this world that we hardly ever get to see; species that we never knew existed. The images that they caught for this movie were really incredible, but I am still a die-hard Planet Earth girl all the way!!!
Of course, when we got out of the movie it was POURING rain. We sprinted to the car and on the drive home, seester and I decided the night would not be complete without two things: trash tv and chocolate.
You see, Seester and I have a Thursday night ritual that usually consists of copious amounts of wine, bricks of extra dark chocolate, and our favorite show Vampire Diaries (that we have so lovingly re-named Venereal Disease…we are so classy). So, we busted out the extra dark chocolate (sans dairy of course) and watched the beautiful Stephan Salvatore suck down human blood.
In spite of sounding like a 13-year-old girl right now: could these dudes get possibly any hotter??
After a sufficiently long and exhausting day, I am finally off to bed. See you in la mañana for the start of the weekend!!!!! Ugh, can’t wait.
xoxo
