In New York

Concrete jungle where dreams are made of

There’s nothing you can’t do

Now you’re in New York

These streets will make you feel brand new

Big lights will inspire you

God, do I love New York.

Lil’ N and I are off to the city for the day. There’s no place I’d rather be. NYC is the place I’ve always wanted to live. It’s the one place that makes me feel new again and so alive. It is such a great city.

The best part about going to NY for the day?

I get to see these beautiful ones:

My Aunt Lucia, who lives in NY with my twin baby cousins and her amazing husband is one of the most amazing and inspiring people I know. Next to my mom, my aunt is my biggest role model in life and there is nothing I can’t come to her for. Seeing her is truly coming at a perfect time in my life. I feel like it’s fate. Can’t wait to see her and the little ones today πŸ™‚

A compilation of the 15 best inspirational quotes from the love and relationship gurus themselves.

Sex and the City, duh.

Ya. I’m a big girly girl. So sue me.

1. As we drive along this road called life, occasionally a gal will find herself a little lost. And when that happens, I guess she has to let go of the coulda, shoulda, woulda, buckle up and just keep going.

2. Practically all the relationships I know are based on a foundation of lies and mutually accepted delusion.

3. Men cheat for the same reason that dogs lick their balls…because they can.

4. Some people are settling down, some people are settling, and some people refuse to settle for anything less than butterflies.

5. Maybe mistakes are what make our fate. Without them, what would shape our lives? Maybe if we had never veered off course we wouldn’t fall in love, have babies, or be who we are. After all, things change. So do cities. People come into your life and they go. But it’s comforting to know that the ones you love are always in your heart…and if you’re very lucky, a plane ride away.

6. Maybe some women aren’t meant to be tamed. Maybe they just need to run free till they find someone just as wild to run with them.

7. If you are single, there is always one thing you should take out with you on a Saturday night…your friends.

8. I’ve been dating since I was 15. I’m exhausted! Where is he?

9. Can you really forgive if you can’t forget?

10. Maybe all men are a drug. Sometimes they bring you down, and sometimes, like now, they get you so high.

11. I’m looking for love. Real love. Ridiculous, inconvenient, consuming, can’t-live-without-each-other love.

12. Are we simply romantically challenged, or are we sluts?

13. No matter who broke your heart, or how long it takes to heal, you’ll never get through it without your friends

14. I had often fantasized about running into my ex and his wife. But in those fantasies, I was running over them with a truck.

…and finally…my favorite quote:

15. Later that day I got to thinking about relationships. There are those that open you up to something new and exotic, those that are old and familiar, those that bring up lots of questions, those that bring you somewhere unexpected, those that bring you far from where you started, and those that bring you back. But the most exciting, challenging, and significant relationship of all is the one you have with yourself. And if you can find someone to love the you you love, well, that’s just fabulous.

…I’m feeling whimsical.

Needing some melody in my life.

It’s a daydreaming kind of Sunday and I’m letting my mind wander off as I lay here, having just returned from a strong dose of retail therapy. My bank account might be hurting at the moment, but at least I’ve fed my fashion soul.

My vacation is slowly coming to an end and there are still some beautiful things I’d like to see before I head home and back to reality.

Until then, I will sit here and day dream about all of the wonderful things about summer.

Cotton dresses

Golden skin

Starry nights

Summer love

This song helps my mind go off to these far away places. Sometimes sad, sometimes joyful. Hope you enjoy.

I will pack my bags just to stay in the corner of your heart. Just to stay in the corner of your heart…

Good morning sunshines πŸ™‚

Sorry I never came back yesterday. My plans for the evening took a sudden turn for the worst and this girl needed a night out with some ladies, badly. I also took a break from blogging yesterday. I’m sorry :(. BUT I can tell you that all you need to know about last night is that it ended in mojitos and Lil’ N and I laughing our a$$es off while watching re-runs of The Office. ‘Nuff said.

No worries, though. I still have so much fun stuff to catch you up on :)!!

After our little trip to Boston, the next day Lil’ N and I made a few trips throughout Massachusetts. The first stop was Dartmouth, where Lil’ N will be attending law school in the fall.

Before we left the house, I had a bowl of cereal. Standard.

corn bran, almond milk and banana

I was so happy to see that Lil’ N’s mama drinks almond milk, too! It completely made my morning πŸ™‚

While Lil’ N and I explored the little town of Dartmouth, we got lost.

It was beautiful, though.

a little lonely road to nowhere

After exploring a little bit of Lil’ N’s new school, we headed towards Cape Cod to see the lovely Kittykat!

Trees, I shall miss you

When we got to the cape, immediately Kittykat went out with us to grab some food. We were about to eat our arms off, we were so hungry. We went to a cute little place that Kittykat used to work at called “Marshland.”

Kittyyyyykat. meow.

Kittykat, being the local in the crowd, told us what was good on the menu and highly recommended their salads. She was so right.

spinach salad with strawberries, sliced almonds, mandarin oranges, and shrimpies with a sweet vinaigrette

So fresh. So fresh n so clean.

Lil’ N’s ensalata:

mixed greens, apples, cranbizzles, stanky blue cheese, and shrimpies in balsamic.

We also got a side of hummus because it was homemade and I love hummus so much I could bathe in it. That would be delicious.

This place also specialized in a little something called “Quahogs.” Apparently, they were featured on the Food Network as “The Best Thing I Ever Ate.” Um, hello, why didn’t I know this until AFTER I ordered? Basically, quahogs are some type of giant seafood ball with stuffing and seasonings. I saw one pass me by to the guy behind us, and it looked quite tempting, but there were other things at this place that were catching our attention:

homemade oreo mousse bar

chocolate chip cheesecake bar

Need I say more?

Oh, and I can’t forget this beauty:

Kittykat and side of strawberry shortcake

Is that not the biggest strawberry shortcake you’ve ever seen? It was even better than it looked, I promise you.

So, clearly, we were feeling a little bit extravagant in the dessert department that day. It happens. No need to remind me that cannolis and tirimisu were in my life the night before. It was all so worth it. I assure you.

After all this feasting, though, I have been trying to get back to realistic ways of eating. Ways that my body is used to and I don’t need to supplement myself with Lactaid everytime I want to take a bite of something. Even though I’ve enjoyed living to the fullest and eating whatever I’ve wanted, I’m ready get back to those clean eats that truly make me feel wonderful. On a side note: I’ve been reaaaally craving watermelon lately. I guess that’s when I know it’s summer πŸ™‚

Once sufficiently-stuffed, the three of us girls headed down to the beach to get our toes in the sand.

I believe in the sand beneath my toes

rock, shell, crableg πŸ™‚

all the cool kids align dead crabs in a row

We spent the rest of the afternoon at Kittykat’s house, talking outside in the cool Cape Cod breeze. We weren’t ready to leave Kittykat just quite yet, so we decided to go see our four favorite ladies on the big screen as they vacationed in Abu Dhabi.

It was fabulous. Made me miss my girls.

There were many handfuls of popcorn, pretzels and nacho chips that went unphotographed. Dinner of champions ;).

The next morning, Lil’ N and I woke up in her mama’s casa to an empty house. We decided to make some pancakes to start the day off right.

this + chocolate chips = smiles πŸ™‚

with all the fixings:

After our pancake feast, we made our way back down to Connecticut.

While sitting in hours of traffic, we made fun of the shirtless, hairy man that drove beside us and listened to our classic New England roadtrip mix (made circa summer 2009). Still a classic.

Once at home, we ate…again…

Tofu and whole-grain pad-thai lunch

We bought this pad-thai from Whole Foods the other day and needed to put it to good use.

with a side salad for balance

strawbreezy salad

Later on that evening, Lil’ N and I headed out to see one of our favorite men.

Immediately, Lil’ N and I hit up the booze stand. Obviously.

It was then that I met my new boyfriend.

Jim. Jim Beam, that is.

Lil' N baby

The concert was awesome, as always and about half of the way through the show, Lil’ N’s dad called us to switch tickets with him so we could be closer to Dave.

So good just wanna eat you up
Nothing like the real thing
Lick your sticky fingers boy
And sing for your dinner sing

celebrate we will. Life is short but sweet for certain.

and my favorite line…

I like my coffee with toast and jelly
But I’d rather be licking
From your back to your belly
I, I, I
Think I’m going to

…I never said I was keeping this blog PG, people.

It was an awesome concert with an awesome person and an awesome way to end the night.

Here’s a little DMB to feed your music soul for the day (one of my personal favorites):

Have a wonderful day πŸ™‚

Hewooooo Der!

I’ve missed you πŸ™‚

It’s been a crazy last couple of days in terms of where I’ve been and the people I’ve seen. One of these people includes one very sexy man. Need a hint?? It’s in the title ;). I’m going to have to break this huge post into two parts because I have things to do, places to go and people to see. So, let me back-track to Wednesday when Lil’ N and I visited the lovely Boston.

On the way there, Sadie, Lil’ N’s pup sat in my lap as we made the drive to hop on the T to get into the city.

well hello there πŸ™‚

Once on the T, Lil’ N and I passed the short amount of time by torturing Sadie by putting hairnets on her head. Do not ask me why I had a hairnet in my purse. No, I am not a lunch lady. My purse is just a cave of wonders.

chef sadie

When we got into the city it was HOOOTTT. When I say hot, I mean hot. I’m from Arizona, people. I know heat. New England heat, though, is the disgusting humid, sweat-your-ass-off, make-your-clothes-stick-to-your-body type of heat that nobody enjoys. At least Zona’s 110 degree weather is a dry heat ;). Hah, I love when people roll their eyes when I say this. Despite the rather sweaty situation, the city was beautiful as always.

After dropping off Sadie with Lil’ N’s mama’s friend (her office is in Quincy Market), we stopped for a little lunch and shop time.

we went here

Wagamama Japanese food. Wicked good ;).

We ate dis:

steamed veggie dumplings

seaweed salad

Roasted vegetable and whole grain worms salad πŸ™‚ yum

You can’t really see the veggies underneath that pile of delicious brown squiggliness, but this salad (split between Lil’ N and moi) was absolutely fantastic. It had butternut squash, roasted portobellos, tomaters, eggplant, and a lot of other stuff I don’t think I can recall. Fab.

Lil’ N and I split all of these dishes (except our seaweed salads that we each got for ourselves but I didn’t finish because 1. I was too full and 2. It wasn’t made how I like it). Other than that, lunch was divine. Simply divine.

After filling up on the veggies, we may or may not have consumed some local chocolate chip cookies baked at a little cookie shop in Quincy Market. How these said cookies escaped my camera, no one knows. It’s still a mystery ;).

After feeding our food souls, we moved on to feed our fashion souls. Our first stop was Urban Outfitters. I don’t care if we happen to have an Urban Outfitters RIGHT ON THE U OF A CAMPUS, that I may or may not stop into between classes and give way too much of my dinero to. It don’t matta. I still go to it out of town and give it my money other places too :).

Although I would have loved to simply take the entire store home with me, yes, even the weirdo hipster booties that I secretly want to pull off somehow, I stopped myself at buying one over-priced item that I have no regrets about.

a little blinged-out locket to bedazzle my chest

The picture doesn’t really do this little princess justice, but it sure sparkles in the sunlight. For those who really know me, you know I love a little sparkle in my life. Ok, a lot of sparkle. I try to shy away from the tacky rhinestoned madness, but a little classy bling can go a long way and one giant, fatty sparkling ring can really make an outfit, in my opinion. I love when I go shopping with my girls and they look at these ginormous “I can’t believe you’d wear that” kinda ring and say “Omg, that’s so you.” Usually, they’re right ;). What can I say, a girl likes her diamonds…or faux diamonds if that’s all you can afford at the moment like moi.

After a few hours of strolling the market and people-watching, Lil’ N and I met up with her mama and her mama’s friends at a local pub. While everyone else indulged in a little Guinness and rum madness, I stuck to seltzer and lime. I know, I’m no fun ;). Psh, who am I kidding? I ended up drinking only a sheer while later. Saaanggrriiiaaaaa.

At the pub, we enjoyed some good laughs and witty comments from the Irish bartender. We also watched the special on the lady who got attacked by that monster chimpanzee. Have you heard about this? Insane.

Then, we made our way to the quaint little Italy in Boston to enjoy, yet again, another delicious and completely over-the-top dinner.

We sat outside at the place called, “Mother Anna’s” (it was coincidence, I swear ;)), and I feasted. By feast, I mean FEAST.

Sangria = headache later on 😦

simple salad with balsamic

baked eggplant stuffed with ricotta. Gasmic.

seafood gnocchi in a marsala sauce. Rich as hell but Oh. My. Gawd.

These Bostonians know their Italian food, that’s fo sho. Lil’ N and I shared these dishes and STILL had plenty left over. We were stuffed to the gills.

I also tried a new little technique to battle my lactose-intolerance. I’m sure many of you have already heard of Lact-aid, but I was always a skeptic. I’ve always been more apt to avoiding foods with a lot of dairy (especially dishes as rich as these babies), just because that’s what I’m used to and I didn’t want to take the chance. But, when on vacay and when indulging a bit…ok, a lot, Lact-aid has indeed saved my life. I felt completely fine after eating these dishes (praise the lord), except for mental side note that this little mamacita needs to get a sweaty work out in eventually ;). For all of you out there with lactose problems, like myself, try Lactaid!! I’m telling ya, it works magic.

Ok…on to much more interesting things…

After letting the food sit a bit, we decided to take a stroll down little Italy and get some goodies to take home (and for me to bring back to my familia in Zona…shhhh!!! Ok, I totally just ruined the surprise). My Italian fasha will really enjoy his little gift ;). We stopped the famous “Modern Bakery” to get some take-home tirimisu and cannolis. This place was recently named one of the best Β bakeries in the U.S. How could we NOT buy something?

I mean, just look at this selection:

get into mah bellay

After hitting up this joint, we went for a nice little walk.

Lil' N and Sade

Faneuil Hall

Later on that evening, while skyping with the girlies back in Zona, Lil’ N and I had a little bit of the goodies from the Italian bakery.

such a sweet ending to a fantastic day

I have so much more to show you from the last couple of days but this little lady is in huge need of moving her arse. I’m going to go for a long, sweaty run to try and clear the mind and hopefully work off all the fun I’ve had this past week. I haven’t been keeping up my physical activity nearly as much as when I’m home (I’m sure I’m not the only one who slacks off a little bit on vacation πŸ˜‰ ) but when it’s my job to keep in physical shape to be able to teach a booty-shaking Zumba class, slacking off for more than a week is NOT allowed in my agenda. As for later tonight, it’s uncertain what is to happen. I shall keep it a mystery for all of you :).

Be back for Part II of this post lata!

Currently on the iPod that will fuel my run is this little number:

I wanna uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-undo it

Gooooooood morning buttercups!

I hope everyone slept marvelously. I have so many things to catch you up on (like my big day in Boston yesterday) BUT, sadly, I forgot my USB hook-up for my camera and I will be in Massachusetts until tomorrow. Sad day.

You know what that means. Another mondo big mama post coming your way. You know you like ’em ;).

This morning, I woke up on the COMPLETELY RIGHT side of the bed (well, literally because Lil’ N was on the left side, but I mean figuratively, as well). After a skype sesh with all my besties back home in Zona last night (that consisted of 5 of us crowded around 2 computers all fighting to get a word in), all my petty worries that I’ve had the past couple of days have seemed to simply melted away.

I don’t know what I would do without my wonderful friends in my life. You dolls seriously complete me. I consider these gals my soul mates. They stick by my side through thick and thin and I am so lucky to have them as my friends. I LOVE YOU SISTERS!

Anyways, I don’t mean to get all sappy on you bloggies out there, but I just wanted to share my wealth of happiness for the day in hopes of spreading it to all of YOU! Keep smiling lovers πŸ™‚

It’s an absolutely beautiful day here in Mass and Lil’ N and I are about to venture out to check out the town of Dartmouth, where she will be attending law school this fall. We’re also hoping to meet up with our bestest little friend Kittykat (remember her!? she’s from the cape cod area and is home right now). We have a great day ahead of us and I can’t wait to catch you all up!

In the mean time, have a wonderful rest of your days little ones. It is almost the weekend. So close, you can feel it (don’t be jealous that i’m living like the weekend for almost 3 weeks straight πŸ˜‰ ).

Love yous!

P.s. I dedicate this song to my girlies back home (and Lil’ N of course πŸ˜‰ ) aka my soul sisters. I love you all dearly ❀

“Glug glug glug”

You hear that? That’s the sound of me turning into a little swimming fishy. Why? Because after all the salmon consumed this week, I fear I might turn into one myself.

This recent salmon binge might be due to the depriving of myself of such wonderful Omega-3’s for the past half year. Well, I got my fill in of THOSE, let me tell you.

You all saw the salmon wedding dinner…meh, sub-par. Not impressive. Fishy-intake round two consisted of one hellova salad.

Yesterday afternoon, Lil’ N and I met up with our friend Nikki to get our grub on at a place called “Plan B.” No, it is indeed a restaurant and not a back-up birth control center. I know, I was skeptic also. Ironically, us three vegetarians went to this BURGER joint, only to find a pretty decent selection of tasty vegetarian options (well, throw in a fish and it’s not so vegetarian, but you catch my drift).

I started off with some sweet potato fries. You know my obsession with sweet potaters by now I hope.

orangey goodness

eaten with a blob of ketchup…of course.

These were pretty darn good. Lil’ N and Nikki both got parmesan fries. I snagged one and understood all the hype. They were awesome. I’m not a huge french fry gal (except sweet potater and those freakin’ crack fries I had in Michigan), but the parm fries were so good they even made an appearance in my dream last night. Yes, I dream of food. I know, I’m really weird. I dream of food, along with many other bizarre and out-of-place things. Such as the other night, when I dreamt I came home from vacation and there was a javelina in my living room.

What’s that you ask? What is a javelina!? If you’re not from Arizona, I assume you may not know.

A giant, stinky, vicious, hairy pig. We have the best animals in the desert, dontcha think?

Moving on.

For my main meal, I ordered the baby spinach salad with salmon.

baby spinach, apple slices, dried cranbizzles, onions, candied pecans, stanky blue cheese, and buttery, flaky salmon

Talk about a feast for a salad. This thing filled me up for houurrrrsss. Must’ve been my protein-filled, fishy friend. Oh vegan days, you were loved, but sometimes a little fish is all I want in my life. Sorry PETA.

Another thing I sincerely missed as a vegan? Blue cheese. I don’t eat it very often, and I’m sure a lot of you are cringing in disgust right now, but that’s okay. More stinky cheese fo me!!! The best part? This stuff (in small amounts like this) doesn’t seem to make me sick! Maybe it’s all the mold…like penicillin or something, helping me not to get sick. That really doesn’t even make sense, but it’s my theory.

After lunch, Lil’ N and I headed back home where I blogged to you yesterday about my sheer laziness. Well, after written said lazy post, this girl got moving. Lil’ N finally came home and we went to the park for the longest walk of my life…about 2 and a half hours or something? We got lost, so this probably has something to do with it. My legs thank me today for it.

It was so refreshing to walk outside and not feel suffocated by the zona heat. I know all my zona friends claim it’s not too hot yet, but I don’t belieeeveeee youuu!!!! We hiked through grassy and woodsy trails, getting lost in the bright green trees that surrounded us. It was beautiful. I hope none of you New Englanders take for granted all of the green here. It truly is amazing. I’d just rather be back home in the winter ;).

Once our legs were done walking, we went back to the casa to do a little Jillian work out action. Yeah, we were feeling ambitious. Needless to say, this morning my bod is feeling a little bit tighter than it has been and I’m loving it. I love the feeling of being sore…does that make me really weird? Just another thing to add to the list, I suppose.

For dinner, Lil’ N and I put our culinary skills to work and whipped up a little sumpin sumpin for us and her fasha. Guess what it was! SALMON! Duh.

I would’ve eaten something else, but we bought this filet the day before and we didn’t want it to go bad (we bought it fresh, not frozen. Ze best.)

I went to work on cooking the little fishy, while Lil’ N worked on the side fixins.

For the salmon, I marinated it in Drew’s Natural honey-dijon glaze. I added some freshly cracked pepper and a teensy bit of salt and mixed it all together. The 1.6 pounds of salmon was more than enough to feed all of us hangry folk, so we had a lot of leftovers. I sautΓ©ed the marinated salmon in pan, and when just cooked all the way through, set it aside and heated up a little more glaze to put on top. It was excellent.

Lil’ N made some bangin’ butternut squash risotto, cooked with soymilk, an itty bitty side salad made with strawbeezies, walnuts and balsamic and some steamed brocc on the side.

the spread

my plate

‘Twas awesome.

For dessert, I indulged in a little light chocolate soymilk pick-me-up.

That’s a half-naked Kristin Cavallari in the background, if any of you were interested. We like E! news around here ;).

After a great day of almost-nothingness, Lil’ N and I ended the evening by catching up on our celebrity current events by watching Chelsea Lately and also catching Glee (Ugh, loved the Ga-Ga remake of poker face at the end. Fabuloso).

Today, it’s off to Boston!!! I love this city, so I am quite excited to go perusing Newbury Street and possibly do a little *gasp* shopping!! I felt like my credit card hadn’t been used enough this trip ;). We gotta take care of that.

Have a lovely Wednesday everyone πŸ™‚
