Goodmorning π
I am so much more refreshed now that I got a good 8 hours of sleep. I was a walking zombie last night by the time we got to Illinois!
So, as was stated in my post last night, yesterday was quite the little adventure. Let me just walk you through it…
The morning started off just fine! We woke up bright and early and chugged some coffee and scarfed some oats.
I drank the coffee with some splenda and no creamer because they didn’t have anything non-dairy at Seester’s casa and I am done experimenting with my lactose limits. Side note for Seester: this is the SAME peanut butter jar that was there when we came to Colorado for spring break bahaha. Remember when your mama yelled at us for eating straight out of the jar? π
After a quick brekkie, we hit the road for a long-a$$ day of travels.
We said good bye to the beautiful Colorado and soaked up some surrounding scenery before we took off.
I could totally live here.
The next state we passed through was this little gem:
Note: “The good life” sign. Um, I suppose if farming is your thang, this WOULD BE the good life for you. I, on the other hand, was not a huge fan of this smelly, rainy state. I’m not joking. The minute we passed the Colorado/Nebraska state line, the smell of cow poo filled the air. Ahhh, what a way to start the morning. Please don’t get offended if you’re from Nebraska. I’m sure there is oh-so much to do around these parts, I just experienced a smidgen of Nebraska life, I suppose.
It literally rained the entire way through Nebraska. We passed the time by snacking and singing.
*gasp* I just revealed Lil’ N’s real name!!!!! Lucky you π
Hours later…
We were in Iowa, not Iov. Despite what the picture entails.
Oh, Iowa, what fond memories I shall always have of you.
Like I posted earlier, Lil’ N and I were starvin marvins by the time we were about 100 miles from Omaha. We used our handy dandy GPS (aka Suzanne, aka the b*tch) to lead us to some good eats. Suzanne was quite the moody ho, let me tell you. Not only does she have a snooty British accent, she is constantly yelling at us to turn left in 258 miles. Thanks, Suzanne. Then, when we actually HAVE to turn, she decides “let me just stay quiet and you can figure it out for yourselves.” She’s such a brat. So, food was hard to come by in this crazy state called Iowa.
We found a little place in the GPS that sounded like a quaint little cafe. Quaint it was. So quaint, that it took us about 10 miles from the highway on to the back roads of Iowa where we got stuck behind a tractor (no, this is NOT an exaggeration) for about 5 miles. That was fun. Once arrived at our destination, we discovered it was a bowling alley. Eww. Not our cup of tea.
We headed BACK to the freeway and decided to find some place else. We came across this beauty:
Fail. This place only served fried chicken, fried catfish, fried potaters, fried…you get the picture. The only thing that Lil’ N and I could even POSSIBLY eat was the fish sandwich. Hah, no thanks.
Next try:
This place, my friends, was quite the diamond in the rough. LET ME TELL YOU. I would not fail to underestimate its potential to be considered fine dining. I mean, the crockpot full of self-serve chili was right up there with escargo and caviar, really. No, I am not joking, a crockpot of chili really was available.
We were tired of searching the state of Iowa for food and our stomachs were eating themselves alive (I don’t understand why, we did eat an entire box of cereal after all) but we sucked it up and stayed at this fine dining facility. It was our lucky day, too. We were seated next to a party of 15 elderly people visiting from a church. Heck ya.
Lil’ N and I decided to play it safe and ordered soup and salad. There was a self-serve salad bar and our waitress brought us their homemade vegetable soup.
This lovely thang had a melange of mixed greens (HAH aka iceberg and romaine ooooo), carrots, some hard-boiled egg, BEEEEEEETS, a little pasta salad tossed in some sort of vinaigrette and sunflower seeds.
Sopa:
If there is anything this small town could do, it was veggie soup. This stuff was bangin.
After sufficiently stuffing-face, Lil’ N and I decided to indulge a bit and ordered each of ourselves a slice of homemade pie. When in rome, right? Well, when in the back skirts of Iowa I should say…
Lil’ N got blueberry a la mode. You go girl!
If you couldn’t tell, I’ve been indulging quite a bit on this little vaca. With no real chance of exercise (I brought my Jillian DVD and hand weights, though!), this trip has consisted mostly of driving and eating. Hey, it’s only 5 days. It ain’t gonna kill me. Once in Connecticut, Lil’ N and I will be able to get back to our normal exercise regimen and eating habits. I’ll admit, my body is craving physical activity already and vegetables, oh vegetables how I miss thee.
After fueling, we headed back out to the car where we witnessed Iowa’s version of child recreation
I think I missed out on this during my childhood.
On with the scenery:
…ya that’s about how exciting things get round these parts.
Then we hit this sign:
Illinois, I have a feeling we are going to get along.
After all, both of my boyfriends have resided here:
Can’t forget this stud:
As for today, Lil’ N and I have already gotten our complimentary breakfast (oats, bananer, apple for the road, hard boiled egg) and its awaiting our mouths. We have crawled back into our beds. So not ready to face the road again. Although, we are heading to Canada tonight, eh. It should be quite the adventure, eh. I can’t wait to see it, eh! And tomorrow…NIAGRA FALLLLLS…eh.
Updates will be coming your way ASAP π
I hope you all are enjoying this little follow-me adventure. Even if my friends back home are the only ones who comment, I know y’all are looking π (y’all?? where did that come from?). I know this because wordpress has a little awesome feature where we can check out blog stats. It tells me how many views I get each day. So far, I’ve passed 1,500 views total since I started this little bloggy. Not too shabby!
Anywho, I hope you all have a wonderful rest of your days!
xoxo
